Lawrence E. Jones, Ph.D. Vice President, Utility Innovations & Infrastructure Resilience, Alstom Grid North America
Dr. Lawrence E. Jones is a thought leader and practitioner with over twenty years of experience in the energy industry. His expertise includes the application of smarter technologies in the engineering and operations of cyber-physical infrastructures including electric power grids and power markets. He also focuses on integration renewable energy and distributed energy resources, system resiliency, disruptive and innovative business and regulatory models, strategies for addressing challenges at the food-energy-water nexus, and big data and advanced analytics for efficient power grids and markets.
Dr. Jones joined Alstom Grid Inc. in 2000 and is currently North America Vice President for Utility Innovations and Infrastructure Resilience and serves on the company’s global Business Development team for Smart Grids and Smart Cities. He was previously Vice President for Regulatory Affairs, Policy and Industry Relations in North America. He was co-recipient of the company’s Corporate Award for Innovation for the DSS, and has several patents for. Prior to joining Alstom, Dr. Jones worked as an energy systems consultant with ABB in Sweden.
In June 2014, Dr. Jones was appointed to serve on the United States Department of Commerce’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee. In September 2010, Dr. Jones was appointed to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to serve a three-year term on the 15-member Federal Smart Grid Advisory Committee. In 2013 he was reappointed to serve another three-year term which ends in 2016.
