Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Mele has been working at Austin Energy for more than 20 years. In her role as COO, Mele leads the business areas focused on safe, reliable and efficient electric generation and delivery, as well as resource and infrastructure planning needed to support future growth. The operations team includes power supply and market operations, electric service delivery, environmental care and protection, on-site energy services, reliability and market compliance, and contract and business development.
Mele has held numerous roles in the management team including Manager of Decker Creek Power Station, Director of System Operations, Senior Vice President of Power Production, and Senior Vice President of Electric Service Delivery, where she oversaw the nation’s first ISO 9001 certification for that type of business unit in 2007. Prior to joining Austin Energy Mele worked with General Electric. She is a registered Professional Engineer with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Union College in Schenectady, New York.
